Furness £150 is ‘life-saver’ for Arnside young sailors

27th September 2016

Youngsters at Arnside Sailing Club are now safer on the water thanks to a £150 donation from Furness Building Society to help with the cost of life-jackets.

The club has recently begun attracting more young members with ‘taster’ sessions, and also runs regular try-out days for adults and families to encourage interest in sailing.  The money from the Society’s £150 Community Giveaway fund is being used to purchase more child-size life-jackets which were in short supply.

The Furness fund makes 150 payments to charities and community groups each year.

Alasdair Simpson, sailing secretary at the club, explains: “For any water sports the primary concern is safety, and we want to ensure our young people have the appropriate gear right from the start.  The money from the Furness means more youngsters can safely start to enjoy sailing around our fabulous coastline.”

The donation was organised through the Furness Building Society agency in the Hackney & Leigh offices at Mountain View 12 The Promenade in Arnside.
