Furness Building Society turns up the heat with £10K summer sponsorships

Furness Building Society has kicked off a summer of fun with a programme of sponsorship, committing £10k to fund a variety of local events, charity initiatives and family fun in Barrow.

The first event in the calendar will see Furness provide a donation towards the annual Keswick to Barrow walk on 10th May, with the team also volunteering at the 40-mile walking and running challenge.

The Barrow-based building society is also sponsoring the second annual ‘Dave Day’ on 21st and 22nd June. Held in honour of the late Barrow-in-Furness legend, Hair Biker, Dave Myers, the motorcycle event will help raise money for Childline.

Further funding has been committed to support the Coast Roads Festival on 26th-27th July, which will be used to provide a series of engaging music workshops for local children.

The summer sponsorship programme forms part of Furness Building Society’s continued investment in the local community to help bring residents together, attract tourism to the area, boost the economy and celebrate the culture and heritage of Barrow.

The investment also builds on the community causes supported by Furness in 2024, including a contribution to Ulverston-based hospice, St Mary’s, which saw the society and its members raise almost £75,000 through its St Mary’s Community Account.

Simon Broadley, Chief Commercial Officer at Furness Building Society, commented: “We’re very excited to share our summer sponsorship plans, which follow months of organising by a passionate team of local people. We take great pride in being an organisation that serves the local community, and for us this means much more than helping people manage their money. By supporting local events, we want to create shared experiences that strengthen the community, boost tourism and support the local economy.”

As part of Furness Building Society’s ongoing community engagement it also works in partnership with Barrow Business Improvement District (BID), a non-profit organisation that works to create a busier, brighter and better Barrow.

Simon Broadley joined Barrow BID as a volunteer director in 2023, bolstering Furness Building Society’s active involvement in the success and prosperity of the town.
