Furness Building Society and Nexa Finance Reach 300 New Homes Milestone
Furness Building Society’s partnership with development finance initiative, Nexa Finance, has helped to fund the construction of over 300 new homes, with 88 homes being built across Cumbria and Lancashire.
The partnership was developed to create new homes for local people through funding new housing developments across the country. Following the launch in 2025, 363 homes have been funded and built nationally, 23 of which form phase one of the Horizon Middleton Towers development in Heysham, Morecambe.
Led by Concorde Homes, Horizon Middleton Towers was the first developer partnership for Furness, with the gated community comprising three, four and five bedroom semi-detached and detached, energy-efficient properties on the edge of Morecambe Bay.
As part of its commitment to help the people in its heartland own their own home, Furness joined forces with Nexa Finance to support regional house builders and developers to fast-track the creation of much-needed homes. This includes building or refurbishing residential properties or converting commercial buildings into residences. Nexa supports the developer with the funding application and liaises directly with Furness’ underwriting team to approve the loan.
Lisa Archer, Senior Heartland Development Manager at Furness Building Society, commented: “We’re proud of the work we’ve done to date with Nexa Finance. Through our commercial lending partnership, we’ve achieved our aspiration to build homes in our local communities and enable more people in our heartland and beyond to make home ownership a reality. By unlocking vital funding for SME developers, this collaboration not only supports local homebuyers but also delivers a boost to regional economies. We look forward to continuing working with Nexa to fund further property developments.”
Liam Harrison, Head of Nexa Finance, said: "Our partnership with Furness has been a fantastic opportunity to advance house building across the country and we’re proud to see the construction of 363 new homes so far. We’ve enjoyed collaborating closely with both Furness’ branch and mortgage teams to guide developers toward the right lending opportunities for their projects. By combining manual underwriting with our simple, jargon-free approach, we’re able to understand the merits of each project and help regional SME developers fast-track the creation of new homes.”
