Furness partnership boosts local business

Local Business
(L to R) Jerry North, Norman
Haworth and Isobel Burns

Lancaster's independent retailers are to benefit from a boost to funding for Lancaster District's Chamber of Commerce. A cheque for £1,800 was recently presented by Isobel Burns, on behalf of Furness Building Society, to Chamber President, Norman Haworth and the Chamber's Retail Director, Jerry North. The sum is commission earned on a Members' Affinity savings scheme set up by the Furness enabling Members to benefit from a higher rate of interest on their instant access savings accounts.

Mr Haworth commented

"The annual funds which the Chamber receives from the Furness have enabled us to support a variety of projects over the years. This year it will go towards a retail promotions initiative in the form of a quality tourism guide to Lancaster City Centre's diverse range of independent and specialist retail shops and stores."

Jerry North explained

"We are in the planning stage for the production of a quality guide which will be available in hotels, and guest houses throughout the district, as well as being distributed through local Tourism Information Centres. With well over 100 independent shops in the City, this new guide will help visitors, and locals alike, to discover some of the hidden gems we have and prove that Lancaster is no clone town when it comes to retail offer."
