Football legend to visit the Furness

England soccer legend, Sir Tom Finney, is to make a rare visit to Barrow this Friday to say hello to some of the Head Office staff at Furness Building Society.

Described as the 'last great England winger' by Sir Bobby Moore, Sir Tom played 433 league games for Preston North End, scoring some 187 goals, as well as 76 times for England, scoring some 30 goals, including 4 against Portugal, and represented his country in 3 World Cup Final tournaments. He was voted Footballer of the Year in both 1954 and 1957.

Rob Cairns, Chief Executive of Furness Building Society, stated 'being such a fanatical football fan myself, I am really looking forward to welcoming Sir Tom to the Furness. He certainly was one of our greatest ever footballers. Hopefully he might even be able to give me some footballing tips!'
